Dear LJ, I'm back from the brink, but I still feel totally bleh. I constantly have that cold-sweaty, fever-just-broke feeling. I don't even know how to describe it, except that I know exactly what it feels like when a fever breaks, and I feel like that almost constantly.
I'm dying of bored, though. Thursday, I couldn't do anything but lay in bed and drift in and out of consciousness. Couldn't even read a book or play Harvest Moon. I think I eventually got out of bed and watched a couple of hours of TV, just for the sake of not being in bed, and then went back to bed. Yesterday, I spent many hours in front of the TV, and I'm sure I'm dumber for it, because at that point I was running out of good stuff on the TiVo. I'm pretty sure I watched several hours of various reality shows, though I can't even remember what, now. Oh! But Rear Window was on AMC last night, so that was a merciful break from the crap. I also watched fireworks on TV, because I thought it was a hilarious way to wallow in the misery of being sick on a holiday.
Anyway, now I face a sort of dilemma, or not really a dilemma because I've already made a choice, but more of a challenge. I really do not feel well enough to go out, and I may still be contagious. But I'm dying of bored, and furthermore we're kind of freaking out under the belated realization that in a month we'll be moving into a house, one with two living rooms, when we have only one living room worth of furniture. So, furniture shopping we go -- a task that's tiring to me even when I'm not sick. I'm telling myself that the bazillion hours of sleep I've gotten since Wednesday night have somehow made me rested. hah.

"There is only one God and He is God to all; therefore it is important that everyone is seen as equal before God. I've always said we should help a Hindu become a better Hindu, a Muslim become a better Muslim, a Catholic become a better Catholic. We believe our work should be our example to people."

| 4th Of July |
[05 Jul 2008|12:29am] |
We spent the day with the dawinkins as per our annual 4th of July with them. I think only 1 or 2 times since 1989 has not been spent with them. It is tradition and I love it.
Today was fun, but I have been sort of in a funk and really tired all day. We shot off fireworks and ate good food and had fun. Matt, Kelly, Justin, TJ, Mr and Mrs. Winking, Katrina, Blake, Savannah and I and also Matt's neighbors Bakar, Becky and their kids were there.
Savannah was being cute and Veronica barely slept. I hope that means she will sleep through the night.
I am just glad the 4th falls on a friday and we can sleep in tomorrow.
Katrina took a lot of pictures so we will post them tomorrow. Now, it is bed time.
Did everyone else have a good 4th of July?

Yesterday saw the passing of both Jesse Helms and Larry "Bozo" Harmon.
It's ironic that we lost two clowns on the same day.
I'll miss Harmon.

http://www.whedonesque.com/comments/16789 http://www.youtube.com/user/seanharry Sean Harry's uploaded several clips of his conventions onto YouTube. One is the The Chosen which features Juliet Landau, Elisabeth Rohm, Vincent Kartheiser, Neil Roberts, Jonathan Woodward, Keith Szarabajka and Georges Jeanty. There's also Serenity Infinity which has Morena Baccarin, Ellen Muth, Richard Brooks, Jonathan Woodward, Nectar Rose and Neil Roberts. If you've never been to a con and wondered what one is like, well it'd do no harm to have a look at these videos.

From an online conversation I had this morning.
I understand everyone has a different opinion on gun ownership, and they have their own statistics to back them up. My "friends" page is littered with pics of folks with their guns and how fucking proud they are to own them. I won't jump on their post and give them my opinion about it even though I'm bothered by seeing it every time. Their lives are their own and it isn't my place to preach to them any more than it would ever be their place to preach to me.
So I made a spreadsheet today. It tallied all the gun related deaths from 1999 to 2005 from reports made available online at the CDC. I turned it into a snazzy 3d pie chart showing the disparity between homicide and all other forms of gun violence (accidental or otherwise). It shows how only > 40% are homicide and < 50% are from suicide. Fun fact: Asians are killed at one third of a rate to whites.

Here it is, but I don't really see the point of educating people who have already made up their minds about guns. Nobody wants to get into that argument where we're too divided to not take it personally. So I'm stuck keeping it to myself.
Guns are cool. They're awesome to see in movies. Violence is fun to watch. Also, suicide and rape in prison jokes are always good for a laugh. My friend came out drink with us wearing a shirt of a guy blowing out his brains. The punch-line was butterflies came out the other end of his head. Get it? Not that I should get upset about it. He would never think that I would be affected by seeing something like that.
I use to own a gun. I came from a family of gun owners. We are went to the range and went hunting and all the red-neck bullshit. Now, I'm terrified to be near one. Only in the last year or so could I even stand to see gun violence on tv. Seriously, I was so adverse to even seeing it that I stopped watching Heroes because I got sick of seeing the cheerleader get killed/raped/gutted/burned/whatever over and over. Syler didn't help either.
I'm still learning to cope, but I doubt I'll be seeing "Wanted" anytime soon.

| Friday, July 4 |
[04 Jul 2008|01:22pm] |

So much sunshine... So beautiful. The "Ottawa Blues Fest" is this weekend... The folks that organize that must be out-of-their-collective-minds with happiness. :D
planning ~ again with the not-waking-up-at-6 thing and working from my home office. Lots to do... but still on track. (does a happy dance). Presentations are in two weeks. Two weeks from today! ~ Going to the bigger skate park later this'aft... ~ Thinking about renting a movie for tonight. I wish Iron Man would hurry up and become a rental. :D ~ Being reminded... as I type... that I need to take something out for dinner tonight. wishing ~ that my many (many!!!) Amer'can friends here in La La land have a wonderful celebration of their independence day.
/// You know... that constitution that is at the heart and soul of today's celebration in America makes it mighty clear that it is the duty of those that seek to uphold it and live by the grace of it's virtue to replace leaders that threaten the integrity of the union. So... can anyone explain why the guy in the oval is still there? Seriously... get busy guys. It's your duty.
// On a ride, on Canada day, and my baseball cap blows off... Geo's like "Oh man... you should see your hair." So...
 ~ sharing time. :)
/ So some number of months ago, I decided that I wanted very much to teach my face to accept a razor blade ... versus an electric shaver. This has gone well... although it took some time to get my neck to stop freaking out with the little red bumpies and stuff. Now, of course, I'm all agog at how freaking expensive decent razor blades are and I'm starting to listen to people tell me that 'lectric shavers have gone up a notch in design... but ... whatever. For now... I'm enjoying the shave-in-the-shower zone. Of course, picking the right shave cream is also key. Why am I mentioning this? Specifically because I so love the feeling when I wash my face during one of those "I'm not a girl" moments (no makeup) and can just decide to reach into the water and bring a refreshing soak'en to my face ... which I do quite a lot actually... When I do that in the morning... my face feels soooo smooth. :) er... this is only a big deal because... for like twenty years I simply never had that. I could never get a decent shave from the time I started shaving until I hit my 40's. Sad but true.

| Tucson Day Two |
[04 Jul 2008|10:12am] |
Tucson day two, I am awaiting my host's return from her workout and killing time at the computer. I think it may already be at three digits outside, but I am loving it.
My cats are home alone as the roomie has found himself incarcerated for a bevy of unpaid tickets. This is possibly rather alarming as we've only just signed a lease. I will deal with any possible calamity and shenanigans when I return home.
Today is July 4th, and for once I'm doing something to celebrate. We're heading up one of the mountains tonight to view the fireworks from a choice vantage point. I'm normally not one for fireworks unless I'm setting them off and causing all the noise and light that comes with them, but the thought of sitting on a mountainside and watching them as they erupt across the city---awesome. I will attempt to capture the moment on my camera.
There are a lot of thrift stores in Tucson. A LOT. I'm dividing the rest of my weekend between thrift store shopping and sightseeing, as there is so much of both to do.
More coffee, and off I go.

Happy Holiday to all.
Not my favorite day ... not because of the significance of Independence Day ... more because of the incessant fireworks that people feel are needed to make the day complete.
Overexposed: Hulk Hogan and anyone relative ... like does anyone care? Amy Whinehouse ... any drug laden rocker ... enough already
Going to Heritage Plantation this pm ... not a good beach day
